bed jumping / hotel view / we could see an In-N-Out Burger but we couldn’t get to it / Universal Studios / got to In-N-Out in the end / tired / a lot of driving / Mexican food at the Farmer’s Market / first red velvet cupcake (not a fan, gave it to Jason) / more treats / venice beach / again

More to come soon but an unphotographed (no cameras allowed, boo!) highlight was catching an LA Derby Dolls game. Amazing girls, so speedy, so tough, they fall so hard and get back up so fast.

And big thanks to new friends Meg & Ash for their hospitality!

Bye bye internets, in 7 hours we’re off on a plane, headed towards our U.S.A. road trip honeymoon. I’ll be blogging sporadically from the road, and it’ll take me a day or two to moderate comments, and probably a bit longer to reply to them. Eeeeeep exciting!

Marawa The Amazing is a hula hoop performer and total babe with a food log/blog. Obviously I love her.

I really miss hula hooping! I wonder if my hoop teacher will ever return from abroad to whip me back into sort-of-not-really shape.

What Kate and Margaret ate

My Momma came to visit Wellington for a very short visit, and as usual we ate our way across the city like little piggies.

We started at Floriditas.

Summer fruits tea and a glass of delicious sav.

I had haloumi with beetroot, mint, capers and toasted flatbread.

Mum had a frittata.

We shared a chocolate orange lamington.

That night we ate at Fratelli, but it was too dark for photos.

The next day we went to Ernesto for brunch.

Mum had poached eggs on homemade hashbrowns with bacon and hollandaise (so good).

I had brioche french toast with poached apple (too sweet for me).

Later that day we shared corn, spinach, ricotta and chilli quesadillas at Gotham.

Then she flew back to Auckland. Bye Mum! Thanks for spoiling me!

Golubka, meaning dove in Russian, is a very beautiful food blog. I’ve been so overcome by the photographs I failed to notice til now that it’s raw food focused! Not that I consider that to be a bad thing, it just places the delicious-looking recipes in a purely aspirational category for me. I’m far too lazy to eat raw at home, but I’m curious about it and looking forward to trying out a few raw eateries in the states, and if any of the food there looks half as good I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.

I was stuck for posts and realised I’d never posted any of our photo booth pictures from our wedding, plus we just had our 6 month anniversary. Yeah, we made it to six months! Suck on that Britney!

I think our wedding photos are beautiful but I almost prefer these since I didn’t have to worry about making serious-but-happy-bride-faces (and you can see in the other pictures how uncomfortable I was!).

Looking at these makes me miss a lot of people. And if you didn’t make it into this post, it doesn’t mean I don’t love you. It just means you weren’t enough of a camwhore. I hope you learned your lesson.

Anticipation

My husband has started a new blog which will be documenting our road trip. I’ll still be posting here of course, but he’s much more diligent than I am. If you’re interested, he’s written about road trip planning, and put together a flickr gallery of awesome places we want to go to on the trip.

P.P.S. Sorry for road trip overkill. I haven’t left the country for a couple of years, and when you live on an island that’s thousands of dollars and many hours from anywhere else (Australia doesn’t count), it is quite an exciting prospect.
