Inside the Best Pinata

I really, really love weddings. I love parties and dresses, eating, drinking and dancing. I love sappy romance. And I love seeing how people personalise and decorate their celebration.

I also love getting my hair and makeup done, and being able to tell people what to wear! *evil laugh*

But lately I’ve been experiencing Wedding Fatigue.  Planning, even the fun stuff, had turned into a chore instead of being oh-so-exciting. I haven’t even really been keeping up with my favourite wedding blogs, I suppose looking at people’s wonderful perfect weddings have been making me feel pressured, despite my ‘My wedding won’t be perfect but it will be awesome’ mantra (stolen from A Practical Wedding). And because I went so crazy with gathering inspiration, they were all starting to blend together.

But with my discovery of Cheri’s amazing wedding party all the excitement came flying back to me!  So many beautiful details, such heart and so imperfectly perfect! If you were inside of the worlds best pinata this is what it would look like.

Hands down the best cake I’ve ever seen.

I’ve been keeping my eye on Cheri’s blog Scout Holiday since discovering her fantastic birthday invitation collage last year. How great that her fondness for flags & watercolour is so pervasive throughout so much of what she does.  More photos of the party at photographer James Ryang’s blog.

P.S. I think I have listened to this song ten times today. Or twenty. The video also looks like the inside of a pinata. I like that.

  1. That cake is indeed amazing! I’m a sucker for anything that has an assortment of rainbow colors on a white background. I hear you about wedding planning! The best piece of advice I got was a friend who told me “just assume something WILL go wrong on your wedding day. It’s OK.” That actually took a lot of the pressure off. I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time. On our wedding day, we were so happy and excited about the novelty of being surrounded by our family and friends that even the little things that went askew seemed funny. Well, except for my passive-aggressive make-up artist. She wanted to make me look like silicon, but I kept her and her brushes of doom in check!

Thanks for the advice! I’m just trying to think of it as a slightly fancy party – things always go wrong at parties but they’re still marvelous. Haha oh dear about the brushes of doom!! Glad you kept her in check, sounds frightening!

Wow. I am definitely going to check out her site. I love all the bunting along the side of the marquee. This reminds me of that crazy wedding in Rachel Gets Married. Are you from Wellington?! O my goodness. So excited to meet another NZ blogger. I’m adding you to my NZ links list right now xx

  4. Kate says:

I think it was Florence & The Machine, Dog Days. Except the old video with dancing in the forest, not the new stark version.
